Chelmsford Chargers 3 on 3 Annual Charity Event
Saturday 10th June, 11.00pm at Riverside Ice and Leisure Centre
Chelmsford Chargers Ice Hockey Club will be hosting their ‘Annual Charity 3 on 3 event’ on Saturday 10th June 2006 at Riverside Ice and Leisure in Chelmsford, Essex.
Every year The Chargers forgo their usual training and match nights to raise money for good causes. This is an in-house tournament for which each player must contribute £15 to participate, with spectators, friends and family asked to contribute a minimum of £1.50 each for the pleasure of watching the event in the relative comfort and safety off the ice. There will also be a raffle where you could win chocolate, wine or an iPod Shuffle MP3 player.
Historically The Chargers have raised money for the ‘Sargent Cancer Care for Children’ (First Chargers Charity Game) but this year the team have chosen to raise money for Lupus UK, a charity close to the heart of one of its veteran players. Money raised at this event will it is hoped provide at least one local Lupus patient with equipment to help give them a better quality of life.
The Chargers have also written to the management of Riverside Ice and Leisure in the hope that they donate the cost of the ‘Ice Time’ and thereby increase the donation made for this worthy cause.
Ice Hockey is the worlds fastest team sport. The game itself is relatively simple and exhilarating to watch (and play!). However due to the number of rinks in this country, it does not quite have the following as in North America or even Europe. This event will consist of a tournament between a reduced number of players from a normal match over a much shorter game duration to allow for the 4 teams to all play each other. Each team will ‘ice’ 3 players (plus a net minder) from a bench of up to 7 or 8 players randomly picked from The Chargers Roster. Each game will play for 10 minutes on ‘running clock’ and if time permits a penalty shootout at the end of the evening / morning!
