A New Season - A New Team?

As the 2005/2006 season begins for the Chargers, a few familiar faces are missing from the line up. Most noticably is the whole of the Line 1 unit. Thus also losing Chargers long standing
team captain, Darren Wakeling. Along with Darren, Chris Goddard and Stewart Judd have also left to join other teams.
While both Darren and Chris have left to further their careers with the Lee Valley Lions, Stewart has left to join the London Legion, another rec hockey team, who could compete with the Chargers
later in the season. This move came as a surprise to the Chargers. Darren and Chris will continue to play for the Lions for at least one season, with further decisions made next summer, as to where
they will both be headed thereafter.
Also heading in different directions are the Pearson brothers. Stuart will leave to continue his journey through university, while for Ben, the journey will begin this year. This move will certainly see
the break up of the R.P.M. line. Paul Revill, Ben Pearson, and Andy Malyon have worked on the same line for a while now, putting together dazzling plays, and leaving some oppositions wondering, what blew by?
On the upside, the Chargers also see the signing of a few new faces. Wilson Ross on defense, and Damien Brading up front. Not much is known about Wilson just yet, however Damien, known by a few Chargers, appears to
be able to bring a fair bit to the table. Good strong skating, quick hands and a good shot, are just a few of the attributes we hope to see this coming season. Another surprise is former goalie and now defenseman Matt Smith
who hopes to make a return to playing this year.
The main core of the team remains the same. The goaltending tandem of Alex Bradshaw and Andy Smith will join forces for their 5 year together as Charger puck stoppers. Defense again is lead by the foursome of coach
Mike Ford, assistant coach Russell Rickett, last year's top defenseman Goetz Stiffel and last year's coach's player Jenny Malyon.
Up front are again some familiar faces. Andy Malyon, Richard Webber, Paul Waller and Paul Revill will continue to pester opposition goalies with their hard shots, and quick plays at the net.
All the above mentioned Chargers, as well as the rookies from the last couple of years will look to bring enjoyment and fun to the Chargers, as has been present for many years already. As well as playing
the normal regular season, this year the Chargers are to take part in a weekend long hockey tournament in Düsseldorf, Germany, in April of 2006. Also this season will see the 2nd year for the newly successful Chelmsford Chargers
website. This now includes a team shop, in which many items of Chargers merchandise can be bought. Also, Coach's Corner and the Archive section will make for some very interesting reading, as you can follow the Chargers not only
in the present and future, but shortly in the past also, as a team History section will take shape, showcasing the Chargers of years past.
Check back soon to see the start of another exciting season for the Chelmsford Chargers. A new Line 1 unit, and a new team Captain are just a couple of the exciting developments taking place on the ice this year.
